Doug Peters: Lead guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, vocals— While drawn by a strong love of the blues, Doug has wide-ranging influences, which he incorporates into his writing. Being a native Georgian, he has strong ties with the Macon Georgia southern rock and blues sound, as well as country and bluegrass. During his early years, his family, well rooted in country music, exposed him to country and old time tunes. (In fact, his grandfather and two of his aunts at one time performed regularly on a live country radio show in GA.) While living in New Orleans, he played with a Cajun Band called Laissez Faire, as well as an original band called Legal Tender and blues bands such as Bones Blues Explosion. Doug also loves bluegrass, which challenges him and helps sharpen his playing. Doug has been fortunate enough to perform on stage with greats such as Ike Stubblefield, Yonrico Scott (Derek Trucks, Royal Southern Brotherhood), Ronny Hammond (ARS), Paul Hornsby, John Keane, Drew Smithers (Marcus King) and members of Lynyrd Skynyrd (Artemis Pyle and Billy Powell). In the past, his former Atlanta band, The Jury, has opened for the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Molly Hatchett. While based in Macon, he played several years with Phat Chance. In Athens now, Doug previously played with Georgia-based songwriter/performer Caroline Aiken, who recorded his song “Come See Me” for one of her CDs. Doug recorded with Mudbone Turner and pays lead on “My Kind of Blues”. Doug also played with Driftwood and Will White and the Howling South, a roots/ Texas blues band in Athens, and currently fronts a trio called Terraplane Blue. Doug has been a featured guitarist at the annual Skydog Festival in Macon celebrating the music of Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers for the past two years. Doug primarily uses vintage Gibson, Fender and Martin guitars but also sometimes uses Dan Electro, Silvertone and Kay instruments for certain slide guitar sounds.
